The One Cup Project was founded on a simple idea: your purchases have power. We want to use that power to do something really good, something for more than just profit, something that can change the world.
So for every $12 bag of coffee you buy from us, $12 goes to fund social and economic change in Africa, with the help and expertise of our partner, World Vision.

If you’re like most Americans, you don’t want to buy Joe CEO a corporate jet for Christmas, or enable some big-name company to pay children little to nothing to work 18 hours a day making shoes.
But there’s a problem – if you’re like most people, you probably don’t know how to use your spending power to support your beliefs . You don’t have enough information to make good choices. In spite of your best efforts, it’s just easier to get into your car and drive to the neighborhood big-box retailer to get your wares.
We at The One Cup Project hear that.
The One Cup Project is led by the founder of an award-winning, Seattle based coffee roaster. He’s been roasting coffee for over 20 years, and selling it, for a profit, to local espresso businesses. His micro-roasted coffees have even won all kinds of awards at local competitions.
More-Than-Profit
We’ve been learning and growing ideas about business working as a catalyst for positive social change in the world. We call it “more-than-profit.”
We’re learning that business doesn’t have to be the bad guy. Businesses have the power to change the world, and if you watch the news or listen to the radio, you probably know this. But usually that change isn’t for the better.
We’re on a mission to tell a different story about business. We want our story to be about using our resources to help those who don’t have a voice, or really a chance, unless someone reaches out a hand.
We want to tell a story about developing a sustainable, more-than-profit business model built on putting your coffee dollars and our time and energy to something that matters, a lot.
Because we are a for-profit business, we don’t have to spend time fundraising. All of our fundraising is done through the sale of coffee.
The birth of The One Cup Project
The One Cup Project was born when owner and founder, Christian Kar, read the book The Hole in Our Gospel by Rich Stearns, President of World Vision U.S.
In his book, Rich lays out a host of major problems that beset the third world, AND how utterly solvable they are, if given enough resources and time.
Christian called World Vision and asked how he could help. Together they came up with a plan to leverage donations from the sales of his award-winning coffees with existing matching grants.
With the help of these grants, the donations made possible by your purchases are increased.
We welcome you to work with us. If you’re a coffee drinker, change your coffee. If you’re a business person, change your business model. If you’re a blogger, get the “more-than-profit” word out.
